Adrienne Munju, a 41-year-old Canadian woman, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for importing 35.20 kilograms of cannabis, known as “Canadian Loud,” into Nigeria.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu handed down the verdict, which also includes an option for a N100 million fine on two counts brought against her by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The charges stemmed from an incident on October 3, 2024, when Munju was apprehended upon her arrival on a KLM flight at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

During the proceedings, NDLEA prosecutor Abu Ibrahim presented evidence of Munju’s unlawful importation of the drugs, leading her to plead guilty to the charges. After reviewing the facts and evidence, the judge convicted her as charged. Munju’s lawyer, Benson Ndakara, later pleaded for leniency, asking the court to show mercy in its sentencing decision.
