The story of a 12-year-old girl giving birth while crying out for her mother has tugged at heartstrings.

Addisyn Lopez, a co-director at Village of Hope in Guatemala, shared a photo of their “newest 12-year-old mama” who just gave birth to her son after being s£xually assaulted.

She told of how the girl, like every other pregnant child, cried out for her mum while in labour but her mother was not there.

She added that such cries, which she has heard often, “undo” her.

The story of the girl has sparked outrage and led to a conversation about children being abandoned by their guardians when they get pregnant.

Village of Hope is a home that provides family style care to adolescent mothers and children with special needs in Guatemala.
