Miley Cyrus has opened up about the emotional moment her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, cried after she gifted him a song as a “peace offering.”

The 32-year-old singer revealed this while speaking on CBS Sunday Morning, where she discussed the story behind Secrets — a track on her new album Something Beautiful that she dedicated to her dad for his birthday in August.

“My dad cried,” Miley said during the interview. “You don’t see your dad cry a lot. That’s something you remember — whether it’s happy or painful tears.”

She added that she hadn’t seen her father cry since his own dad passed away.

Miley and her dad, Billy Ray, had been at odds following her parents’ 2022 divorce — a rift that reportedly affected the entire family. But according to Miley, music helped them reconnect.

“We didn’t feel like there needed to be a big conversation,” she explained. “Him and I communicate better through song. Once he got the song, it said something in a few minutes that would’ve taken a family with therapy many sessions.”

Miley added that instead of traditional family counseling, she and her dad “do studio sessions and send songs to say ‘I love you.’ That feels peaceful for us.”

Billy Ray later confirmed her words on Instagram, posting a throwback video of him and Miley performing together when she was little.

“Talk about a Sunday callin’!!!” he wrote. “Started with @mileycyrus on CBS Sunday Morning. One great song can do more for the soul than a million therapy sessions. Music changes everything!”

The country star also shared that he spent his morning playing baseball with his grandson and feeding horses, adding that he was “thankful to God for all things good.”
